Last week saw the untimely death of one Australia’s favourite sons: Heath Ledger.

Being Australian, but particularly being a fan of his talents, I was saddened to hear the news.

I’d like to make a suggestion though, as a Lensmaster while it may seem like an opportunity to take advantage of the situation of the sudden massive news exposure of a celebrities death, we shouldn’t.

Now I’m not saying we should self-enforce a blanket ban on talking about celebrities who have passed away, I think it’s best to do it gently.

Don’t make a lens about their death. Because I’d hate for Squidoo to acquire a reputation for being ambulance chasers. To the right is a photo taken barely two hours after the death of Heath at Walmart. At the site it was posted the blogger was furious at Walmart for trying to cash in so quickly.

Indeed make a lens, but make it one about them as a person. Their accomplishments, their career. Don’t shy away from their death, but don’t make it just about that.

Lets celebrate their lives, not monetize their deaths.
