What is and how to use Lensroll

What is it?

Lensroll is a user driven community allowing people to share, social bookmarking, Squidoo lenses they either find or publish themselves. The site is powered by Pligg, a content management system, that allows submission of content that will be reviewed by all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page.

How to use the site..

This is the easy part. Basically you just enter your url to your lens, give a good title and description of the content, select a category and give it some tags and click submit. Our friend Jean Costa made a great video giving a visual explanation of using Lensroll.

When you submit a lens, the community then can roll (vote) their favorites, moving the submission to the front page (published). On the other hand if the community as a whole buries a lens they don’t like, that submission will eventually find it way to the deleted archives. This is the driving force which helps to keep the content submitted valuable to the community.

Using Lensroll could not be explained better than by another of our friends Lewis over at SquidooCool - Learning about Squidoo. He gives a great lensroll how-to guide where he points out the finer details of the sites use.

Although LensRoll is still very new the sites popularity is growing steadily. The community has grown to 868 members and 2300 submissions in just a few short months with more and more people joining everyday!

We want to say “thank you” to all of you who’ve joined the community and contributed over these last few months. The next few months should be even more exciting as we continue to grow and implement new features. We’re going to stay focused on the goal which is to drive as much traffic to the lenses posted on LensRoll as possible.

Changes to Lensroll’s Front Page Voting Requirements

Posted by Greg @ 8:17 PM, Friday Oct 19th, 2007

As some of you may know, the requirement for a submission to reach the front page of Lensroll was 5 rolls within 30 days of the lens being submitted. Because of the site’s continued increase in popularity and traffic, the requirement has been adjusted to 3 rolls within 15 days.

Over the last couple of weeks many lenses submitted have been reaching the front page. This not only increases the value for a submission reaching the front page, but also better reflects the opinion of the community and it’s members as to what is considered to be the best lenses submitted.
