Lensroll Registration Woes
It has come to our attention that some folks are having a hard time creating a new account here at Lensroll. I wanted to shed a bit of light on what appears to be happening.
The registration process incorporates a global database provided by StopForumSpam that provides lists of spammers that persist in abusing forums and blogs with their scams, ripoffs, exploits and other annoyances.
Here’s how it’s suppose to work:
When a person registers they are checked against the SFS global blacklist by IP, and Email address. If they have been reported before, they will not be able to signup on your site. No notification or explanation is provided to the spammer attempting to signup on your site.
For the most part the registration process works fairly well but at times it doesn’t always work like it should. Innocent users get caught in our internal filters that backup the SFS Global Spam project and are unable to create an account. To be clear, the emails and IP’s are not forwarded to the SFS database, but instead stored in a file on our sever. This a safety precaution that prevents inadvertently marking someone as a spammer in a global database when they are not.
With all things beta there are quirks and Lensroll is no acceptation. Everything we use here is developed and maintained by a very small group of people. With apps and API’s changing almost weekly it’s tough to keep up at times. Not making excuses here, just stating cold hard facts.
This issue of banning good users is being addressed but it will take a bit of time to sort it all out. In the meantime, if you think you have been banned or cannot successfuly create an account in the directory please contact us via Facebook or SquidU and we’ll get your email and ip removed from our list ASAP.
A word of caution to those that might try and trick us into approving a know spammer. It won’t happen. If your email or IP is already in the SFS Global database we will go with their suggestion and ban the login details.
Have a great day!
