Lens of the Day gives a fantastic kick in the lensrank.

Just a month ago one of my lenses, was bestowed with the honor of Lens Of The Day (my first and only one to do so). It in itself is quite an honor, but there is something else that is notable, the sharp increase in traffic and the ensuing Lensrank spike.

I can’t speak on behalf of every LOTD lens, but here are some stats to chew over…

It was 5 months old with the highest rank achieved being #948 overall. Last seen sitting at a LR of 37,645 with just 25 visitors for that week when news broke about its LOTD award.

At the first lensranking after the LOTD announcement it jumped over thirty-thousand places to #4,046 with 1,035 visitors. In less than 24 hours (probably around 6 hours) 1,000 people had read the LOTD newsletter and clicked through.

The second lensranking after the LOTD announcement it went to #11. It hovered around that mark for another week or so before drifting down the ladder.

It’s only just recently dropped out of the Top 100.

It spent 21 days on the Top 100 list.

Its highest rank achieved was #9 overall

It went to #1 in Local and also a #1 in Travel (I moved it after deciding that Travel may be a better fit).

Do all LOTD recipients make it into the Top 100? I don’t know.

Can a LOTD recipient get enough of a boost to make it to number 1? I have seen it happen in the past. Mine made it to #9. Maybe the LOTD Blog and email exposure can be the tipping point that ignites the fuse that causes it to be featured at other blogs, sites and forums. Or even magazines and newspapers.

Though plenty more lenses have found fame and fortune without ever having been deemed the best lens of the day.

My LOTD popped my lens into the Top 100 for 4 days. It had a much smaller visitor count, I think because another LOTD was announced very quickly after my 2 minutes of fame.
