Although Christmas has its roots in pagan festivals, it is now one of the key celebrations in the Christian calendar, second only to Easter.

There are more and more complaints that it is too commercialized now and that many people don't remember the meaning of it. In fact, the majority probably don't go to church at any time, not even at Christmas.

Is this acceptable? We don't expect non-Hindus to celebrate Diwali or those not of the Jewish faith to celebrate Hannukkah. Why should non-Christians and even atheists take part in all the Christmas celebrations apart from the key religious elements?
